Cancer Endowed Chairs
Gibbs Cancer Center has positioned itself as a leader in the delivery of world-class cancer care at the community level.
Now, it’s time to take things to another level.
Traditional capital campaigns often focus on bricks, buildings and equipment. This program recognizes that pursuit of excellence must also have the best human resources. This challenge campaign will secure world-class physician leaders who will be responsible for maintaining Gibbs Cancer Center’s reputation for excellence in care, research and community involvement.
Thanks to a generous lead challenge-gift made by the Gibbses, Spartanburg Regional will now begin developing a recruitment plan for two endowed chairs to support the center’s goal of research development and quality improvement. Both endowed chairs will aid in charting the strategic direction of the cancer services at Spartanburg Regional.
The $15 million in funding will be achieved over a three-year period.
The gift from the Gibbs of $4 million includes a $2 million dollar-for-dollar match that will pay out as contributions are made. The Foundation Board of Trustees has committed to contribute $1 million if $2 million is raised. The Foundation is also responsible for instituting a campaign to secure an additional $5 million from community partners.
Of the $15 million total commitment to this program, Spartanburg Regional has made a commitment of $5 million for operational support for both endowed chairs. This funding will continue until the endowment is able to be fully in place. The remaining $10 million will go into the special endowment fund for the cancer-endowed chairs.
It is our hope that these funds, as well as the ensuing campaign to secure them, will engage the Spartanburg Regional community, highlight our commitment to the promise of quality cancer care and support our mission of excellence. To donate to the Cancer Endowed Chairs, click here.
